Another session of online teaching

Good thing Matt has been updating pictures on this blog - I know I haven't been as good about updates lately! I got back into online teaching this Fall. I was going to teach this past Spring, but they ended up asking me to write some curriculum instead, which was a great experience!

I've had lots of people at church ask me details about this, and I'm not sure I've ever blogged much about it in the past. I teach on a part-time basis for Orange Lutheran High School in CA. They have a very developed online program. Some of our students are on-campus students at that high school. They do some combination of traditional and online courses which I honestly haven't quite figured out yet. Some of our students are homeschooled students who decide to take a course here and there, and others get their entire diploma through OLO for various reasons.

I do a bit of work in the afternoons while my older two have a brief rest time, but then I do more in the evenings after they go to bed. I just started my 6th and 7th classes. They are 8 weeks long, and I've done them on and off over the past few years when it works out with my parenting schedule. I went to school to teach English and History, but they channeled me into the PE/fitness classes right away because I had experience with that during student teaching, in addition to an athletic and coaching background. Those courses are nice because the workload isn't quite as intense, but I do get really excited when I get to do an English course! My strength as a teacher is definitely helping students develop their formal writing skills (like analytical essays and research papers).

Anyway, this session I am doing two courses for the first time. I'm teaching a small section of the fitness class I wrote this Spring, and then a medium-sized section of freshman English. It should be an adventure, and it will absolutely eat up all of my spare time between now and the middle of December!
