Back home!

Praise the Lord! We are back home! I was able to talk the doctor and nurses into releasing Matt this evening rather than keeping him again overnight. He looks and feels very good but gets tired quite easily. When we got home he tried to start reading his emails on the computer but felt exhausted after just a couple minutes and had to go to bed.

The GI doctor couldn't say with absolute certainty, but in all likelihood he had a bleeding ulcer in his small intestine that stopped bleeding during his stay at the hospital. They didn't prescribe any major dietary or lifestyle changes, but they did suggest that he start taking Prilosec OTC daily in case an overly acidic stomach was part of the problem (he hasn't ever experienced heartburn before though...).

He is currently anemic. We think the hospital will be calling us or mailing the results of his blood test. The GI doctor thought the anemia was caused by his major blood loss, but she wanted to rule out the possibility that it was a previous condition. I assume that, if it is only from blood loss, it will eventually correct itself?

Matt will be getting his hemoglobin level checked here in Imperial on Saturday or Monday. If he has another situation with internal bleeding, as evidenced by black stools, he will most likely swallow a "pill camera" that could take pictures of the small intestine which neither the stomach scope nor the colonoscopy could reach.

Thanks again for your prayers and support! We will keep you updated on Matt's recovery process in the coming days.
