Early 4-month check up

I took Noelle in today, about 9 days early, for her 4-month check up because she has been consistently constipated for weeks, and I wanted to discuss this with the PA rather than a nurse over the phone.

Noelle was almost 17 pounds and already 26 1/4 inches long. If I remember right, she was 13 pounds and 24 1/2 inches at 2 months. Just like Reagan, she continues to be off the charts in weight and height. Yesterday I had to get out the 9 month size sleepers because she pops the buttons when wearing 6 month ones. And her torso can only get an inch longer before the 9 month ones will be too snug! Reagan was like this too, and I wonder if their torsoes are longer in proportion to their legs than other kids? Not that Noelle looks like she has short baby legs, but she needs bigger sleepers than other clothes. We are currently transitioning from 3-6 month to 6-9 month non-sleeper clothes.

Anyway, I got to talk to the PA, who I just love, extensively about Noelle's constipation. Because Noelle rarely seems one bit uncomfortable even if she hasn't pooped in days, and because the poop that comes out when I give her a suppository is normal consistency, we decided it isn't a major issue. We have tried some prune juice in a medicine dropper since she won't take a bottle, but that really upsets her stomach. Next we are going to try some Caro syrup and see if that helps. If it doesn't, we are going to introduce cereal soon. While cereal made Reagan constipated when I first introduced it, the PA said that this might actually help Noelle to go. It isn't a matter of her not being able to push something thick out. Apparently it is more a matter of needing to stimulate her inner muscles (or whatever), so having thicker poop might actually stimulate her more. The PA said they could resort to a stimulant medication, but she preferred not to do so since Noelle wasn't in any pain.

Now that you know way more about my family's poop issues, have a blessed week! :)

I thought about it more and realized, that since Noelle can still easily fit into most 3-6 month onesies but needs bigger sleepers, it must be the other way around. She has long legs!
