Some Good News

I underwent a nuclear test for Meckel's Diverticulum this afternoon, and we are still waiting to hear the results. I have a hunch that I have Meckel's because the technician was focusing on something that looked like a finger extension and said, "Oh, that's a good picture."

The GI docs just came in and said that yesterday's capsular endoscopy revealed no areas of bleeding in the small intestine. They also told me that my hematocrin levels have risen sharply today. It was 25 this morning, then 28, and now it's at 31. Normal for an adult male is from 39 to 50. So this is yet another indication that my bleeding has stopped and that my body is beginning to make more blood.

We got the impression from the docs that I could be heading home fairly soon as long as my levels do not drop again. If I require surgery for Meckel's, I could potentially opt to do it during this hospital stay (likely early next week) or at another time of my choosing. I might like to get over my anemia before I am operated on. We'll see. Stay tuned...
